Charges that Indiana House Democrats have abandoned their responsibilities by denying the GOP majority a quorum ignore the effect the walkout has had in tempering some seriously flawed education legislation. Indiana teachers opposed to the original legislation would argue the Democrats are doing their jobs.
I took a look at the damaged relationship between the public education community and the administration in this Sunday column.
On a side note, I took a few days off last week to travel to southwestern Indiana, where I coincidentally stumbled on a public education rally along Evansville's riverwalk. The speakers included ISTA vice president Teresa Meredith, Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel and former state Rep. Phil Hoy.
