Irish women head to Final Four

Notre Dame is returning to the NCAA women's tournament Final Four for the first time since its 2001 championship season.

The second-seeded Irish defeated top-seeded Tennessee 73-59 in the Dayton Regional final in the University of Dayton Arena. It was the Irish's first win over the Volunteers in 21 meetings.

Notre Dame (30-7) will face the winner of Tuesday night's Connecticut-Duke game in the national semifinals Sunday in Indianapolis.

Skylar Diggins led the Irish with 24 points, and Natalie Novosel added 17.

Taber Spani and Shekinna Stricklen each scored 13 for Tennessee (34-3).
