Hansbrough, Brey pick up honors

Notre Dame guard Ben Hansbrough and men's basketball coach Mike Brey picked up honors Monday.

Hansbrough, who was named the Big East player of the year, was named a second-team All-American by The Associated Press. He was also named a second-team All-American by Sporting News and a third-team All-American by Basketball Times.

Hansbrough also was chosen to CollegeInsider.com's 22-person Lute Olson All-America Team.

Hansbrough led the Irish in scoring with 18.4 points per game and had 145 assists this season.

Brey added the Basketball Times' coach of the year award to Big East, U.S. Basketball Writers Association, SI.com, CBS Sports.com, Yahoo Sports.com and FOXSports.com coach of the year awards.

Brey led Notre Dame to a 27-7 record and an appearance in the third round of the NCAA tournament. The Irish lost to Florida State 71-57 March 20 in Chicago.
