Dane Fife, who has led IPFW's men's basketball program to improved seasons in each of his six years as head coach, including an 18-12 record this past season, has signed a contract extension through the 2016 season, the university announced today.
Fife, who will turn 32 this summer, owns an 82-97 overall record in his six seasons with Mastodons.
Last year he led IPFW to its first winning season in NCAA Division I at 16-15.
Whether Fife stays at IPFW through the length of the contract remains to be seen. He has been touted as one of the sought-after young coaches in the country.
"I will not deny that coach Fife is a commodity," IPFW athletic director Tommy Bell said.
Bell said Fife has "some mechanisms in the contract" to go elsewhere, but did not elaborate.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
