Twin foals were born at Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital south of Columbia City this past weekend.
The mare and foals are all doing well, the hospital said in a written statement.
It is rare for horses to successfully give birth to twin foals, it said, statistics indicating that this only occurs with 1 in 10,000 equine pregnancies
The equine hospital said the births straddled the midnight hour, with the colt born at 12:56 p.m. Saturday and the filly coming just a short time later – but with a Sunday birth date.
The owners are Eric and Laura Mason of Huntington.
