INDIANAPOLIS (April 1, 2011) - Governor Mitch Daniels has accepted Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s friendly wager over the outcome of the Women’s Final Four game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies.
Written statement released Friday:
If Notre Dame does not prevail in Sunday’s semifinal game at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Daniels has offered a selection of gourmet chocolates from the South Bend Chocolate Company, located near the Notre Dame campus.
“UConn is #1 for good reason, but we don’t call them ‘Fighting Irish’ for nothing. We’re looking for a great game,” said Governor Daniels.
Should Notre Dame win, Governor Malloy will send a basket of UConn-themed Munson’s Chocolate from the famed Connecticut chocolaterie which has a shop adjacent to the university’s Storrs campus.
“I’m planning on a nice ham dinner, courtesy of the Governor of Kentucky, it will be wonderful to finish it with South Bend chocolate,” said Governor Malloy. “The Fighting Irish are a formidable opponent with dedicated fans, but I have confidence that Geno and the UConn women will show them a great game, even if the scoreboard ultimately proves disappointing for Indiana.”
The South Bend Chocolate Company was founded in 1991 and now has 20 stores throughout Indiana and Michigan. The company got its start making chocolates under a license from the University of Notre Dame. The high-quality line of chocolates is also available at other stores and shops throughout the country.
