K's lead; fantastic intensity

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- It's been a fantastic opening to the first-round CHL playoff series between the Komets and the Bloomington PrairieThunder, at least if you like intensity.

Both teams have been skating hard and hitting a lot, and the Komets lead 1-0 on a power-play goal from Tab Lardner, who went high on goaltender Marco Emond, after Frankie DeAngelis' shot from the point ricocheted off the boards behind the net.

The Komets' restructured power-play units look great so far; they have generated seven shots on three power play. One unit doesn't have a defensemen, going instead with forwards Sean O'Connor, Mathieu Curadeau, Leo Thomas, Artem Podshendyalov and P.C. Drouin.

The PrairieThunder has taken some bad penalties -- hard-hitting Garrett Klotz is going to get it into trouble -- and I suppose that can be attributed to it being the team's first playoff game.
