  • City going wireless – with vehicle sensors
The city will be trying out new detection units on intersections in an effort to help move traffic with a lot less work. Q.
  • Design rules slow down Dupont Road work
Massive projects take time not only to build but also to design. Sometimes patience is the only remedy. most of it is already done, and the remaining portion is all residential?
  • Road lines hit mark at Stellhorn
I try to shed some light on a main northeast Fort Wayne road. Q. The lines at the intersection of Wheelock and Stellhorn seem confusing. You have to pull to your right before you go into the intersection.

Trails part of upgrade at Diebold

As the county prepares to widen Diebold Road to accommodate additional traffic from the Parkview Health complex and new interstate interchange, readers want to know what the road will look like.

Q. Has there been any discussion about sidewalks on Diebold connecting Dupont and Union Chapel? – Jodi Koesters

A. Well, Jodi, there are several pedestrian plans in place for the Diebold Road widening.

Mike Eckert, with the Allen County Highway Department, said there will be a trail on the west side of Diebold from New Vision Drive to Dupont and a 10-foot shoulder from Norarrow Drive north to Union Chapel Road on the east side.

A pedestrian crosswalk with push-button activation will be included in the planned signal at New Vision and Diebold. In addition, Parkview Health is installing a trail along their planned Parkview Plaza Drive extension to Union Chapel within the health complex.

Q. What will the configurations of the key intersections be along Diebold Road? – Allan J. Penar, Fort Wayne

A. Thanks for the question, Allan. Here is the layout:

Diebold Road at New Vision Drive will have a traffic signal. Diebold will have five lanes – two northbound, two southbound and one northbound left-turn lane. New Vision will have two entering and two exiting lanes.

Diebold at Dupont Road will have two northbound and six southbound lanes. This will mean two right-turn lanes, two through lanes and two left-turn lanes.

Union Chapel at Diebold is still being designed by the state, and a roundabout is recommended.

Dupont area closures

As the state continues its work expanding Dupont Road near Interstate 69, two side streets will be closed to make room for the work. Arapaho Passover east of Tonkel Road will be closed for the next two to three weeks, and Tradewinds Court will be closed from Thursday through April 11, weather permitting.

The 1.8-mile expansion of Dupont is expected to be completed in August.

Cloverleaf lighting

Drivers should soon see the lights on a notoriously dark interchange.

The Fort Wayne Board of Works awarded a project this week to illuminate the Coliseum Boulevard cloverleaf with Indiana 930. If it goes as planned, the project will be awarded next week and begin construction this spring.

The $200,000 project is expected to be finished by Aug. 1.
