Building on the success of its popular “Hot Off the Grill” cookouts, the Emporium at Joseph Decuis opened a casual café last week.

The menu includes sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads, many of the ingredients locally sourced.

Daily features will be added soon.

There’s also a cooler with “to go” items, such as sandwiches and brownies.

Most prices are $4 to $10.

Lunch hours for the Decuis Emporium Café are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. Dinner hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays to Saturdays.

The Emporium still sells food products, including Joseph Decuis soups and Wagyu beef, but it doesn’t carry as many gift items as it did. And it no longer offers cooking classes, since the “Culinarium” has become the café’s kitchen.

The Emporium is at 151 N. Main St. in Roanoke.

There will be a grand-opening celebration April 29 that coincides with Roanoke’s Spring Fling event.

Barr Street Café to unveil spring menu

The student-run Barr Street Café in Anthis Career Center will unveil its spring menu Tuesday.

It features grilled rosemary lamb chops, salmon with lemon butter and a cucumber-watercress salsa, shrimp rolls, stuffed chicken breast with herbed cream cheese and spinach and a mixed-greens salad with goat-cheese croutons and basil dressing. Desserts change weekly.

Prices are $5.95 to $9.95; each entrée includes a choice of the daily soup or vegetable.

Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Reservations are recommended; leave a message at 467-1031.

The café follows the Fort Wayne Community Schools calendar, which includes spring break this week.

Wine tasting benefits Fort Wayne Ballet

Raise your glass for “A Toast to Downtown,” a wine tasting to benefit Fort Wayne Ballet, on April 15.

The event, which includes a silent auction, begins at 7 p.m. at 200 E. Main St. in the former Park Place on Main.

A VIP “first pressing” reception starts at 5:30 p.m.

General admission is $50, or $75 a couple.

The VIP tickets are $100, which include appetizers by Club Soda, chocolates from DeBrand Fine Chocolates, reserve wines, martini bar and a keepsake wine glass.

German spring show at Park Edelweiss

Park Edelweiss will have its German spring show on Tuesday at 3355 Elmhurst Drive.

The dinner, with Hungarian goulash and spaetzle (noodles), will be available from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and the musical performances start at 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 for dinner, $20 for the show, or $30 for both.

Manchester College gets taste of globe

Manchester College in North Manchester will serve an International Buffet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

The dishes, including empanadas and horchata, will be prepared by students and food-service staff.

Some international students and faculty will wear traditional clothing.

Tickets are $9.99 for adults and $5.50 for ages 6 to 12.

The buffet will be in the College Union’s Haist Commons.

Reservations are not necessary.

Tidbits

•Coldwater Landing, 5820 Coldwater Road, closed last week after five months in business. Gary Chappell, who still owns the land, building and equipment, expects another restaurant to open there at some point. I’ll have more information in a future column.

•The April feature at B. Antonio’s Pizza is Pizza Campanella (ham, salami, mozzarella, provolone, tomatoes and lettuce). You also can get two 12-inch one-topping pizzas for $20. To order, call 485-2400 (Chapel Ridge) or 490-9222 (Lima Marketplace).

•DeBrand Fine Chocolates will have public tours from April 13 to 16. The tours are available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 10105 Auburn Park Drive. The tours are $5, which include a $5 rebate off a purchase of $10 or more. No reservations are necessary.
