Written statement issued Monday morning by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department:
A seven year old Nappanee boy is in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital after being run over by a skid-loader on Saturday.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputies and Nappanee emergency personnel responded to the address of 10746 West, County Road 1100 North, Nappanee, on Saturday at 4:55 p.m. in reference to a child run-over by a skid loader.
Investigating officers were advised that the seven year old boy was riding on top of a pallet that was being transported by his father, Mark Schwartz, 32, 72842 County Road 101, Nappanee.
Schwartz had recently purchased the property, and was doing work around the house and land. Apparently when the skid-loader changed terrain from a field to a mowed grass area, the child fell off the pallet and was run over by the rubber tracks.
The child was flown by helicopter to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, and currently listed in critical condition with broken ribs and multiple pulmonary contusions.
As of mid-day Monday, the child remained in critical condition, Parkview officials said.
