Lane closure scheduled tonight on I-69

Verbatim statement issued Thursday:

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Fort Wayne District announces that I-69 is scheduled for a restriction beginning tonight, Thursday, April 14, between Exit 116 and Exit 126, near CR 11A. The exact location is three-five miles south of Auburn.

The northbound (right) lane will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews repair the shoulder and provide routine maintenance. Sometime next week, crews will likely restrict the northbound left driving lane for similar work. More information for that possible restriction is forthcoming.

The road is expected to be open at 6 a.m. Friday, April 15.

The project begins on the heels of Highway Work Zone Safety Awareness week. On average four out of every five people killed in highway work zones are drivers or passengers, not highway workers, so INDOT is joining with traffic safety personnel nationwide to stress “Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone.” According to the latest Indiana Crash Facts publication, 12 people were killed and 602 people were injured in work zone crashes during 2010.

To avoid becoming a statistic, INDOT urges drivers to follow the safety tips listed below while driving through work zones. Additional information can be found at INDOT’s work zone safety Web site,
