Written statement issued Thursday morning by the Indiana State Police:
Garrett, IN - The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division from the Fort Wayne post is investigating a shooting that occurred in the DeKalb County city of Garrett last night that stemmed from one man being angry over another who was said to have been riding a go-cart on a sidewalk in front of his house.
According to Detective Mark Heffelfinger, at approximately 8:45 pm, the Garrett Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 500 block of E. Quincy Street. Upon their arrival, they found 31 year old Joshua D. Price lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple small caliber gunshot wounds. He was transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where he is currently listed in stable condition with abdominal and spinal injuries causing quadriplegia.
The alleged shooter, 31 year old Darrick M. Hensley of Garrett was located at a residence in the 500 block of E. Quincy Street and was taken to the Garrett Police Department for questioning by Heffelfinger. Hensley was then taken to and incarcerated in the DeKalb County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery, a Class B Felony.
