Komets lose Game 2

Anyone who doubts the excitement of playoff hockey should have seen the Rapid City Rush’s 4-3 victory over the Komets on Saturday night, in front of 4,666 fans at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

It was back-and-forth, physical, sometimes dirty and had plenty of warm-your-heart drama.

But it was decided in the third period, when the defending-champion Rush got a power-play goal from Colt King and a short-handed goal from Josh Beaulieu, handing Fort Wayne a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-five Turner Conference semifinals.

Game 3 is Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum. The Komets are 6-0 in games which they could have been eliminated over the last three years, when they won three straight IHL championships.

Check back soon; I'll have much more.
