My friends wonder why the tomato and pepper plants I raise for them aren't as huge as the ones in my yard as the summer progresses. I tell them it's all in the soil.
I toss yard waste, leaves, vegetable and fruit scrapes all year into a compost pile and then collect the dirt in the spring.
Last winter a fox visited my compost pile nightly for what ever scraps he could find. Every night my dog Bosco would wait by the window for the fox who always showed up around 10 p.m. Once I saw two foxes together and am hoping I see the kits this spring.
