The Blob loves a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone. I mean, I personally think Cadbury orange creme eggs are a diabolical plot to make me fat ... ter.
But I have to chuckle more than a little at the conspiracy talk currently breaking out on the local hockey message boards, which says that Sean O'Connor's suspension coupled with the non-suspension of Rapid City's Les Reaney means the CHL is trying to ensure its champion moves on.
First of all, the suspension (and lack of one) is based on the CHL's notion that suspensions should be tied to injury. O'Connor's victim got hurt, and O'Connor didn't, even though Reaney's hit on O'Connor was far more obviously intentional. So, OC sits.
This has nothing to do with any conspiracy against the Komets. It has to do with faulty and frankly ridiculous reasoning by the CHL, but not any conspiracy against -- ahem -- the biggest draw in the league. Why would the CHL want them out of the playoffs as quickly as possible?
All of this is especially amusing when you consider fans of other teams used to say exactly the same things about the Komets and the IHL that Komets fans are now saying about the Rush and the CHL. Remember all that yawp about how the Frankes ran the league so there's no way the IHL was going to let them lose?
Sounds just as idiotic coming from Komets fans. Sorry, it does.
