Cierra Lothamer was chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Indiana Pageant. The winner will be crowned June 30 in Indianapolis and will go on to compete in the national pageant in California.
Margaret Distler, a sophomore at DePauw University, is a semifinalist for the Sierra Clubs Best Internship on Earth. Winners will be selected by the Sierra Club staff but could be influenced by the views and comments the semifinalists receive. For information, go to www.sierraclub.org/bestinternship.
The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
2nd Lt. Tracy Fields of Mishawaka and Spc. Dustin Winebrenner of Auburn, both members of the Indiana Army National Guard, were awarded the National Guard Association of the United States Valley Forge Cross for Heroism for coming to the aid of victims of a car crash on June 21, 2009.

Giving back
The Fort Wayne Arborists will give away 1,500 free white spruce, Canaan fir, serviceberry, black gum and hornbeam trees from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the south parking lot of the University of Saint Francis North Campus, 2702 Spring St.

Students from St. John Emmanuel Lutheran School in Monroeville raised $836 for the school through the sale of 418 Mama DeLucas pizzas. Cole Bradtmueller was the top seller with 36 pizzas and had a pizza named after him at the Fort Wayne location for a month.
Krogers Central Division stores Daffodil Days fundraiser for the American Cancer Society raised $13,268.94. The Scotts store at 710 E. Dupont Road was the top-selling store with $790. The Kroger store at 6002 St. Joe Center Road raised $490; the Scotts store at 10230 Chestnut Plaza Drive raised $460; and the Scotts store at 4120 N. Clinton St. raised $420.
Alfe Heat Treating donated $2,500 each to both the IPFW Richard T. Doermer School of Business and the IPFW College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science.
