RAPID CITY, S.D. -- After falling behind by three goals at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, the Komets were showing plenty of heart and had gotten back into the game with a Derek Patrosso goal.
Then, with just 16 seconds left in the first period, something awful for the Komets happened. They turned the puck over in the offensive zone, setting off a 3-on-2 rush. The puck deflected about 40 feet into the air and landed in a pile of players before trickling into the net.
They are still sorting out who gets credit, but I believe it was Derek LeBlanc.
After the period, in which goals also came from Les Reaney, Konrad Reeder and Riley Weselowski, the latter grabbed the mic and said, "The next two periods, we need you fans to be as loud as you can, and we'll work as hard as we can."
The shots are 18-12 in favor of the Komets, who are giving up way too many rebounds.
Power plays are 2 for 2 for Rapid City, 1 for 2 for Fort Wayne.
