Wine, celebrities on tap for fundraisers

There’s a virtual buffet of fundraisers on the horizon, so here are some opportunities to toast a good cause:

•Northern Indiana Public Radio will have a “Picked by the Pros” wine tasting and fundraising dinner on Friday at the Masonic Temple, 216 E. Washington Blvd. Doors open at 5 p.m. The seven-course dinner, prepared by Club Soda, starts at 7 p.m. Dan and Krista Stockman will discuss the wine pairings, and the University of Saint Francis Jazz Quintet will play. •Parkview Foundation’s eighth annual “Cookin’ Men” fundraiser will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Coliseum. Sample soups, appetizers, entrées and desserts made by 80 local celebrities. Proceeds go to the mobile mammography program. There will be a silent auction and a cash bar. Advance tickets (for those 21 and older) are $65; additional tickets are $50 to $40. •Lutheran Health Services’ 25th annual Festival of Wines will be May 6 at the Fort Wayne Country Club, 5221 Covington Road. This fundraiser for Hospice Home is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It also will include microbrews, an appetizer buffet and chocolates by Key III Candies. Tickets are $50. Reserve them by calling 435-3222 or buy them at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road.

New Ground Coffee Co. opens on Clinton

New Ground Coffee Co., 5925 N. Clinton St., has opened in the former Naked Clay Café.

Besides coffee and tea, the menu features muffins, cookies and baked goods, plus cheesecake on weekends, while it lasts.

The coffee house, which has a drive-through, is owned by New Ground Community Church.

Starting Sunday, it will celebrate its grand opening with daily specials all week.

Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 3 to 9 p.m. Sundays.

Mother’s Day meals on the menu

Culver’s offers deals for 2nd anniversary

Culver’s, 6527 W. Jefferson Blvd., is celebrating its second anniversary this week with daily $1 specials.

Today, enjoy short milkshakes. Thursday’s deal is corn dogs and on Friday, you can get a single scoop dish or cake cone.

Family Fun Night runs from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight with children’s activities.
