The Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Auburn is inviting quilters to submit blocks for this year's quilt block contest.
The contest will be conducted in conjunction with the RSVP's 30th anniversary quilt show, "Thread Tails and Vapor Trails" (read more about that in an upcoming Crafty Living column), which is July 1 through 10 at the Hoosier Air Museum.
The theme for this contest is "Shades of Black and White." Categories are appliqued, pieced, or a combination of those techniques. Blocks must measure 12 1/2 inches by 12 1/2 inches unfinished, must incorporate black and white into the design and should be made of 100 percent cotton or cotton blend. All blocks also must have adequate seam allowances and be pressed.
Entrants may submit as many blocks as they want, but the blocks become the property of RSVP and will be placed into the 2011 Sampler Quilt, which will be raffled.
A $100 savings bond will be awarded to the first-place winner in each category with second-place winners receiving $50 savings bonds.
The deadline to submit a block is June 30. They may be delivered or mailed, with an entry form, to RSVP's office, 107 W. Fifth St,. Auburn, IN 46706.
