How do you get rid of crayfish, legally?

Alan and Dawn Ramsey of Columbia City have crayfish in their lawn:

We have a problem and were hoping maybe you would have some good suggestions for us. We have towering clods of mud throughout our yard and landscaping, some up to 8 inches high and 6 inches across with a central hole about 1 inch across.

Based on some internet sleuthing and in talking with our Extension agent, we have guessed them to be from crayfish. They are tearing up our yard and no one seems to have any good ideas to get rid of them. We were told by our extension agent that there is some sort of treatment, but it is not legal in Indiana. Do you have any good suggestions or can you point us toward someone who could help?
