Fort Wayne defeated West Michigan 2-0 in front of 5,646 fans Tuesday at Parkview Field.
Three TinCaps' pitchers combined to limit the Whitecaps to five hits in the shutout.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Key at-bat: Chris Tremblay provided an insurance run with a single to right field in the seventh inning. B.J. Guinn scored on the play, making it 2-0. Guinn scored both runs in the game.
- Key out(s): Fort Wayne left fielder Jose Dore caught a fly ball in the fourth inning and then threw Ryan Enos out at the plate to end the inning.
- Happy birthday: Mark Hardy pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings for Fort Wayne on his 23rd birthday. Hardy struck out five Whitecaps.
"I just knew they had a really fast guy on third base. Anything that was hit to where I didn't have to go back, I'd have a chance. I just made sure I got behind the ball and tried to put it on a dime."
