Huntington punches ticket for NAIA baseball tourney

The Huntington University baseball team beat Marian 3-1 in the finals of the Mid-Central Championship tournament on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan.

The Foresters will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA national championship at one of nine opening-round campus sites. The tournament begins Thursday and runs through May 16.

Huntington collected all of its runs in the sixth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. The Foresters’ Blake Ayers, Justin Branock and Jamon Hammel each drove in a run in the inning.

Mitch Bowers threw a complete-game, four-hitter for Huntington. He struck out eight and walked two.
