Another one bites the dust

Quad City suspends operations.

More and more the CHL is becoming remindful of that beater Chevy you drove when you were a kid: Stuff keeps falling off it.

Amid numerous rumors, and more than rumors, of defecting teams, comes this news out of Quad City.

Note especially the reasoning given for closing the doors: "We felt this was the proper decision given the uncertainty of the landscape of the industry."

Which suggests to me more and more that Double A hockey is contracting and, eventually (as Michael Franke has suggested), we'll wind up with one Double-A league and one Triple-A league in minor-league hockey.

It may not happen tomorrow, or next year, or two or three years from now. But it's gonna happen.
