Abby Miller is a portrait photographer in Fort Wayne.
And, now, she – along with neighbor Heather St. Peters – is the designer of couture headbands that feature prominently in portraits she takes.
Millers Lavish Photography has lots of newborns as subjects. As the creative mind behind Lavish Photography, Miller was constantly looking for different ways to style the children she photographed.
Since she and St. Peters were already getting together on Tuesdays for craft time – everything from baking to decoupage – they decided to give making headbands a try. Thus was born Lavished Boutique.
It was on our list of things to learn how to make, Miller said. When we figured it out, we had so much fun with it we decided we shouldnt just make them for ourselves.
From a financial standpoint it made sense too, she said. She was already buying handmade headbands, and it would be cheaper if she could do them herself with fabric she and St. Peters had on hand or slowly added to their collection.
The headbands have been introduced to the public through photo shoots, but the women have finally built up enough stock to take the headbands to a larger market – etsy.com. Their shop – Lavished Boutique – can be found by typing inabbylynnmiller.etsy.com in your Web browsers address bar.
There you will find colorful, floral headbands perfect for the young – or older – princess in your life. Prices range from $10 to $25.
Both women are mothers: Miller to 3-year-old Alivia and 1-year-old Jude and St. Peters to 11-year-old Emma and 4-year-old twins Eva and Lena. Their children are featured prominently on Lavished Boutiques Facebook page (www.facebook.com) and theyre the perfect little models for the super cute headbands.
For now, Miller and St. Peters hope to get the Etsy shop up and running and see where things go; eventually, Miller admits shed like to find a local childrens clothing designer with whom she can work to style her photography subjects.
Its something we just love doing, she said. We get to be creative and be together and have fun, and our kids have fun when were doing it.
