WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) issued the following statement on Sunday regarding Governor Mitch Daniels’ decision not to run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination:
“While I was disappointed to learn of the governor's announcement that he would not be a candidate for the 2012 presidential nomination, I know that his decision was deeply personal and in the best interests of his family. I respect that.
“Governor Daniels was clearly our party's most experienced, balanced and effective potential candidate. He would have brought a remarkable record of leadership and achievement in the very areas most needed, and frankly most absent, at the federal level.”
