Verbatim: Kayaker death under investigation

Written statement issued by Lt. Gary E Whitaker of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division:

(Howe) Indiana Conservation Officer Erick Bolt is investigating a boat accident that occurred on May 24, 2011 at approximately 2:50 p.m on Cedar Lake.

Kenneth A. Anderson, 61, of Saint John, Indiana was paddling a 10 foot kayak on Cedar lake when he apparently capsized his kayak. Witness stated that he called for help after he had capsized. Anderson only had a type IV throwable device (boat cushion) in the kayak. Anderson slipped below the surface of the water before rescuers arrived. Anderson was pulled from the water by Fire Rescue and was transported by ambulance to Parkview Lagrange hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.

Officer Bolt was assisted by Lagrange County EMS, Fire Rescue and the Lagrange County Sheriff’s Department.
