SOUTH BEND – New Haven fell to Mishawaka Marian 5-4 in the Class 3A semistate Saturday at Coveleski Stadium.
It was the second straight loss in the semistate round for the Bulldogs.
New Haven (25-8) trailed 5-1 in the seventh before scoring three times, including a two-run single by Lucas Salerno.
“It isn’t the most talented team, but they are extremely dedicated,” New Haven coach Dave Bischoff said. “We’ve never had a team win back-to-back regionals, so that says a lot about this team.”
The Knights (26-7) trailed 1-0 before scoring three runs in the fourth on three doubles to lead 3-1. Marian added runs in the fifth and sixth.
Marian will face Crawfordsville in the 3A state championship game next Saturday at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
