County officials to honor wounded Marine

Statement issued Tuesday:

The Allen County Board of Commissioners and County Council will honor United States Marine Lance Corporal Brandon Long of Fort Wayne at the Council’s regular monthly meeting Thursday.

Long will receive a joint proclamation from both bodies designating June 16, 2011, as “Brandon Long Day” in Allen County. Long and members of his family will be attending the meeting.

On December 21, 2010, while serving his country in Afghanistan, Long stepped on an improvised explosive device, losing both his legs. He continues to recover from his critical injuries and, after a brief trip home, will return to Washington, D.C. for more therapy.

The Allen County Council meeting begins Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers/Commissioners’ Courtroom of Citizens Square, 200 East Berry Street. The public is invited to attend.
