Do It Best CEO joins state economic development board

Statement issued Thursday:

INDIANAPOLIS (June 16, 2011) – Governor Daniels announced the appointment of Robert N. “Bob” Taylor to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s (IEDC) board of directors. The governor made the announcement at today’s IEDC board meeting.

Taylor, of Fort Wayne, has been the president and chief executive officer of Do It Best since 2001. Do It Best is a co-op of independent business owners with affiliates in 50 countries. Before becoming CEO, Taylor spent 25 years running his family hardware store chain, Taylor’s Do It Best, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The chain currently has 10 stores that are managed by his father and two brothers. He earned his undergraduate degree from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia and earned a MBA from Old Dominion. He and his wife Marion have two children.

The IEDC focuses its efforts on growing and retaining Indiana businesses while attracting new investments to the state. The board is comprised of 12 gubernatorial appointees. Taylor replaces Bruce White who had served on the board since 2005. Taylor’s term is effective immediately and will end on May 2, 2013.
