Pet first aid class offered

City of Fort Wayne - Animal Care & Control will hold a Pet First Aid class on Sunday, July 31 from 12-4 p.m. in the education center located at 3020 Hillegas Road.

Students receive classroom materials and a dog or cat First Aid manual/DVD set designed to build skills and provide guidance in emergency situations until veterinary care is available.

The class is appropriate for pet owners, groomers, kennel operators and other animal welfare professionals.

Learn to respond to emergencies with instructor Beth Tropp who will share her experiences in emergency veterinary animal care.

Enroll by calling 260-427-5508. Class fee: $55 payable in advance.

Topics Include:

  • Urgent care situations, including wounds, electrical shock, eye, paw, and ear injuries and bandaging techniques
  • Administering medications
  • Managing breathing or cardiac emergencies
  • CPR using dog and cat manikins
  • Preparing for disasters
  • Symptoms and care for common ailments and emergencies
  • Creating a pet First Aid kit
  • Preventative care to maintain your pet’s health and well-being
