SCAN issues “QUACK” alert

Statement issued Friday morning by SCAN:

With just 24 hours to go before the Weigand Construction Duck Race, SCAN is less than $3,000 away from this year’s $135,000 goal. We need a few more people in the community to call 421-5000 or to text the word QUACK to 50555 today to purchase sponsorship of duckies for Saturday’s race, which is 11 a.m. at the Johnny Appleseed Park boat ramp; an estimated 16,000-17,000 colorful plastic ducks will be lowered by a crane onto the river and float about one city block toward the finish line.

The first 36 to finish will win donated prizes for their sponsors, including $5,000 and $1,000 cash prizes for the top two. You do not have to be present to win. A variety of family activities and food will be available at 10 a.m. on Race Day.

SCAN serves Allen and 17 other northeast and north central counties, providing home-based prevention and family restoration services that strengthen families and keep children safe; in 2010, SCAN directly touched the lives of more than 27,000 children and adults.
