Verbatim: Rudisill Blvd. and Old Mill Rd. signal phasing changes

Written statement issued Wednesday morning: Please be advised the traffic signal phasing at the intersection of Rudisill Blvd. and Old Mill Rd. will be reconfigured to allow southbound left turns to continue on a green ball if there is no conflicting traffic.

The existing phasing, which allows southbound traffic to proceed, then stops them and allows northbound traffic to proceed, was there to accommodate the double left turn that was in place prior to the installation of the bicycle lanes and reversible center turn lane on Rudisill Boulevard.

Now that motorists have become accustomed to utilizing the new pavement configuration on Rudisill Blvd., the City Of Fort Wayne’s Traffic Engineering Department will be installing a 5-section traffic signal for southbound traffic that will provide a protected left turn signal followed by a green ball that will allow motorists to continue to make the left turn if there are no pedestrians or north bound vehicles.

This change, which is scheduled to be implemented Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 1:00 P.M., should improve the efficiency of the traffic using the intersection thereby reducing delays and congestion.

For further information or for problems that may develop contact the Traffic Engineering Department at 427-1172.
