Barbecue cookin’ at T8ste Tizzzzz

Nothing screams “summer” like a plate filled with barbecued meat.

T8ste Tizzzzz BBQ & Soul Food has opened at 2801 Lower Huntington Road in the former Red Rooster Restaurant.

The menu includes a variety of items that are smoked on site: pulled pork, wings, ribs, brisket, chicken, bologna, turkey and sausage.

There also are burgers, turkey burgers, sandwiches and sides such as coleslaw, potato salad, cheesy corn, fries, onion rings and collard greens, plus daily lunch specials.

Most sandwiches are $4.99 to $7.99.

A full slab of ribs is $19.99.

Homemade desserts include pies, shortcakes and banana pudding.

Children’s and seniors’ platters are $3.99.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It’s closed on Sundays.

Clay’s opens for annual Pie Day

Once a year, Clay’s Family Restaurant in Fremont is open on a Monday for Pie Day.

This year, the festivities begin at 4 p.m. Monday.

The last seating will be at 8 p.m.

In addition to 15 varieties (or more) of pie, the menu will include pot roast, sloppy Joes, potatoes and gravy, soups and beverages.

Advance tickets are $10.99; get them at the restaurant.

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door on Monday for $13.99.

Scotch tasting at Tavern at Coventry

Hall’s Tavern at Coventry, 5745 Coventry Lane, will have a single-malt Scotch tasting with appetizers June 30.

It will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the deck. If it rains, the event will be inside.

Admission is $30.

Vanilla Bean’s menu expands

With the creation of a lemon blueberry-crumb version, Vanilla Bean’s Biscotti & Pastry Boutique’s cupcake menu now has more than a dozen varieties, which are available on a rotating basis.

This new cupcake is made with fresh blueberries and topped with a blueberry butter cream frosting.

There’s also a new oatmeal cookie with whole wheat flour, oats, apricots, raisins and walnuts.

The store, 3410 N. Anthony Blvd., opens at 10 a.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays. It closes at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Owners Debbie Smith and Sandra Wharton also have expanded the catering menu to include mini versions of its cookies.

They will have a booth at RiverFest on Saturday at IPFW.

They also plan to be at the Barr Street Market, which opens for the season July 9.
