All-State selections Connor Czuk and Kyle Mathewson highlight 11 area players selected to play in the Grange Insurance All-Star Classic on July 15 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
Czuk, a fullback from Carroll who made the 5A Associated Press All-State team, and Churubusco running back Mathewson are joined on the North team by Homesteads Dru Durnell, East Nobles Jordan Gater, Sniders Akeim Kelsaw and Tyler Williams, Bellmonts Daniel Meyer, Southern Wells Andrew Runkle, Columbia Citys Andrew Tourney, New Havens Russ Tucker and Bishop Dwengers Jalen West.
Columbia Citys Randy Hudgins is one of six assistant coaches for the North.
The all-senior game starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for children 5-11.

Leo grad to pitch in all-star game
Pitcher Brandon Alger, an Indiana Tech sophomore and Leo graduate, was selected for the Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game on July 13 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
Toenges repeats as Senior champs
Fred Toenges Shoes won its second consecutive Senior Little League city championship at Hamilton Park. Dakota Reinking had a home run in the title game to help the team finish the season 20-2. Also on the team are Cameron Kahlenbeck, Corey Limauro, Jeremy Elder, Colin Levy, Matthew Beber, Austin Fletcher, Austin Campbell, Royce Osborne, Casey Kellogg, Kyle Martin and Tyler Lowe.

Heritage promotes boys coach
Brad Kiess was hired as Heritages varsity boys coach. Kiess, 47, was an assistant coach on varsity the last two seasons and also coached the JV/freshman team at Heritage from 1996 to 2003.
NBA player Weems to play in Lithuania
Sonny Weems, who played with the Toronto Raptors last season, has joined Zalgiris Kaunas of Lithuania, the first NBA player to sign a contract during the lockout.
Russian U19 team eliminates U.S.
Dmitry Kulagin had 21 points, including five of Russias 12 three-pointers, in a 79-74 quarterfinal victory over the United States in Riga, Latvia, knocking the defending champions out of FIBAs Under 19 World Championship.

West Virginia put on NCAA probation
The NCAA placed West Virginia on two years of probation, stemming from violations involving out-of-season coaching and the use of non-coaching staff who worked with players under former coaches Rich Rodriguez and Bill Stewart.
GOLF
Sharp shoots 87 at Junior PGA event
East Nobles Katie Sharp shot an 87 in the final round to finish with a 241 and in sixth place at the PGA Junior Series event at Purdues Kampen Course. Sharp shot 79 and 75 in the first two rounds. Illinois native Katherine Hepler fired a 1-over 217 for the tournament to win, including a 71 on Friday, and earned the qualifying spot for the 36th Junior PGA Championship at Sycamore Hills on Aug. 2-5. Homesteads Karley Dobis finished with a 267, tied for 29th place. Warsaws Tyler Ostrom shot a 79 in the boys 16-18 division to finish with a 239 and in 20th place.
Blumenherst plans local clinic
LPGA player Amanda Blumenhurst will conduct a clinic for kids of the Lifetime Sports Academy at 10 a.m. Friday at McMillen Park. The public is invited.

16-team tourney at McMillen Park
The Three Rivers Rugby Tournament will be played today at McMillen Park. The all-day, 16-team tournament will feature men and women from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. Admission is free.
