Fire hits recycled-asphalt plant

A Fort Wayne company that makes recycled asphalt was struck by fire Wednesday.

The Brooks Construction Co. asphalt plant at 2711 Banks Ave. had a blaze inside an exhaust bag filter structure shortly before 11:45 a.m., according to a statement from the city fire department. It said the steel structure filters out particles created by the asphalt-making process.

The blaze was under control about an hour later and required large amounts of water, the fire department said.

The plant is on the city’s southwest side. The fire department said there was moderate fire damage and heavy water damage.

No injuries were reported.
