Credit card scam targets businesses

Businesses in Angola are being cautioned about a credit card scam proliferating in the area.

The scam starts with a phone call to a business with information that its credit card machine has been having problems, the Angola Police Department said.

Callers will say they’re from “support” or something along those lines, and employees will be asked to complete several tasks with the credit card machine, police said. However, the tasks completed by the employees will result in hundreds to thousands of dollars in losses, police said.

Employees are urged to hang up on anyone calling about problems with credit card processing. Businesses having actual trouble with their credit card machines have phone numbers they can call to inquire about such issues, police said.

Anyone with questions is urged to call police at 260-665-2121.
