Aqua Indiana asks Aboite customers to stop watering lawns

Statement issued Thursday:

Ft. Wayne, July 21, 2011 – Aqua Indiana is asking its customers in Aboite Township to stop watering their lawns through Monday, July 25, 2011 in the wake of this week's high heat and continued lack of rain. Water consumption across Indiana has increased steadily since last week, and a number of water utilities are faced with high water demands. Aqua has been able to meet the demand for water thus far, but if water use continues at the current rate there is concern that the system will not be able to maintain adequate water pressure for its customers and for fire protection.

"While our wells and treatment plants are operating well, we are asking our customers to curtail lawn-watering activities in order to maintain dependable supplies of water throughout the system at all times." said Tom Bruns, Aqua Indiana president.

The utility will re-evaluate this request to cease all lawn watering on Monday, and may continue to ask for water conservation efforts if the excessive demand continues.
