    The IPFW women’s volleyball was picked to finish second in the Summit League preseason poll of the league’s head coaches. The Mastodons received 53 points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

IPFW announces 2011-12 men's basketball schedule

IPFW's 2011-12 men's basketball schedule gives the team a chance to perform on a national stage.

The Mastodons, who went 18-12 last season, will be part of ESPN BracketBusters. The Feb. 18 game will be an away contest against a team to be named later.

Along with the ESPN special game, IPFW highlights its non-conference slate with games against Xavier, Purdue, Iowa and Valparaiso.

"We've put together an exciting schedule for our players and fans again this season," coach Tony Jasick said in a written statement. "The obvious non-league highlights are our games at Xavier, Purdue and Iowa, which put our program in front of national TV audiences and our December slate versus in-state rival Valparaiso. We will also get a chance to see new conference member South Dakota and future member (University of Nebraska at Omaha)."

IPFW tips off the season against Nebraska-Omaha at 1 p.m. Nov. 12 in Memorial Coliseum. The Mastodons also travel to play Nebraska-Omaha, which was 19-9 in Division II play last year, at 1 p.m. Dec. 12.

IPFW opens Summit League play with a home game against Missouri-Kansas City at 7 p.m. Dec. 1, and it plays host to new league foe South Dakota at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3.

The Mastodons open their road schedule with at visit to Xavier on Nov. 15. Last season, IPFW pushed Xavier to overtime before losing 76-66.

Former Mastodons guard Ben Botts, who missed a game-winning shot at the buzzer against the Musketeers last year, is now a member of the Xavier coaching staff as a graduate assistant.

IPFW's second road game of the season will be its first trip to Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Nov. 26.

At 7 p.m. Dec. 7, IPFW will play host to Valparaiso, and the Mastodons travel to play Purdue on Dec. 20.

IPFW will play two conference games at the Gates Center when it plays host to North Dakota State at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 and South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Jan. 28.

The Mastodons' close their home schedule against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Feb. 15, and they conclude the regular season at UMKC on Feb. 25.

The Summit League Tournament will be played March 3-6 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
