Whitley sheriff in battery probe

The Indiana State Police have wrapped up an investigation into battery by an elected official in Whitley County, and Sheriff Mark Hodges confirmed it was him.

State police were called Tuesday by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department for the battery investigation, state police spokesman Sgt. Ron Galaviz said.

Galaviz would not confirm Hodges was the subject of the complaint, citing department policy not to name uncharged suspects. He did say a report has been completed by troopers and forwarded to the Whitley County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors have not reviewed the report, officials there said.

Hodges said the situation involved himself and his estranged wife and that he has filed a cross complaint against her.

“It was an altercation between my wife and I,” he said. “I have filed charges against her of residential entry, trespassing and battery to me. The (state) police just finished taking a report, and it will go to the prosecutor’s office.”

Details of what led to police involvement were unavailable.
