And Another Thing

Empty gesture

I hate this sort of thing.

I hate the grand show of sacrifice to gain public favor, when it's generally all show and no sacrifice whatsoever. We got this during the NFL lockout, when Roger Goodell made Broadway production out of the fact that he would take only $1 in salary during the lockout ... as if he needed any salary at all to maintain his obviously comfortable standard of living.

Now comes David Stern, who says he'll receive none of his eight-figure salary during the NBA lockout. Please. Who's he trying to impress here? Or fool?

We all know the man, salary or not, won't miss a meal because of this, and we're not talking about Big-Mac-and-fries meals, either. This is no sacrifice at all, and everyone with a brain cell knows it. And the worst of it is, Stern knows we know it.

So, please, Commish. Just shut up about it.
