At least it wasn't a shutout

The TinCaps pushed across an unearned run in the eighth inning to avoid a whitewash in their 7-1 loss to Bowling Green on Wednesday at Parkview Field. Rico Noel, reaching on a fielder's choice, moved to second when Cory Spangenberg was hit with a pitch, then ran home on an attempted double play relay throw to first that got away. Bowling Green (24-21) had only four hits the entire game, but two were home runs (a solo shot by Fort Wayne native Kevin Kiermaier in the third inning, and a grand slam from Phil Wunderlich in the seventh). Bowling Green's only single came in the third. The TinCaps (23-22), meanwhile, struck out 11 times against the Hot Rods, including nine times against starter Enny Romero. The TinCaps and Hot Rods return to Parkview Field on Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. start.
