The good news for the TinCaps is that Bowling Green pulled its starting pitcher, Enny Romero, after the fifth inning. The not so good news is that the Hot Rods brought in Victor Mateo as his replacement. Romero dominated the TinCaps in his five innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. In his 79 pitches, he threw 53 strikes. That's when Mateo was inserted at the bottom of the sixth, and of his three successive outs, two were by strikeouts. The third-inning home run of Fort Wayne native (and Bishop Luers grad) Kevin Kiermaier continues to hold up, as the Hot Rods take a 1-0 lead going into the seventh inning.
