Statement as issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol about a bust near the Indiana state line:

Patrol seizes 45 pounds of marijuana in Preble County

EATON – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 45 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $100,000, following a traffic stop in Preble County.

Troopers stopped a 2003 Ford E350 Cargo Van, with Arizona registration, for a speed violation eastbound on Interstate 70, near milepost 11, at approximately 1:20 p.m. yesterday. Criminal indicators were observed and a Patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed 45 pounds of marijuana in the cargo area of the van.

The driver, Roger P. Serrano Jr., 43, of Avondale, Ariz., was charged with possession of marijuana, a third-degree felony and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

Serrano was incarcerated in the Preble County Jail. If convicted he faces up to six years in prison and up to a $12,500 fine.
