Former IU All-American, NFL Hall of Famer dies

Pete Pihos, a two-time All-American end and fullback at Indiana, died Tuesday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 87.

Pihos was the second IU player enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1966.

He was an All-American in 1943 and 1945. He led the Hoosiers in scoring (48 points) during their Big Ten championship season of 1945. One year later, he was named the team's MVP, again finishing with 48 total points (eight touchdowns).

Pihos played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1947-55. He led the NFL in receptions for three consecutive years and made six trips to the Pro Bowl. In 1970, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
