Purdue trails 14-10 at half in opener

WEST LAFAYETTE - It's not exactly the kind of season-opener that Purdue had hoped for.

Some shoddy tackling on Purdue's part contributed to a pair of Middle Tennessee touchdowns in the Boilermakers' season-opener at Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday. And a result, Purdue trails 14-10 at the half.

Middle Tennessee went ahead 7-0 on a 26-yard pass play from quarterback Logan Kilgore to Malcolm Beyah.

Purdue took a 10-7 lead on a 50-yard field goal from Carson Wiggs and a 2-yard pass from Caleb TerBush to Jared Crank. The touchdown was aided by a Middle Tennessee pass interference penalty that gave the Boilers the ball on the Blue Raiders' 7-yard line.

But Middle Tennessee answered with a 95-yard drive that ended with Sancho McDonald weaving through the Purdue defense on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Kilgore.

Bush is making his quarterback starting debut for Purdue. He completed 9 of 18 passes for 106 yards and one interception.
