TinCaps headed back to playoffs

Rocky Gale and Connor Powers hit home runs and pitcher Keyvius Sampson did the rest. Fort Wayne clinched a playoff berth with a 7-2 victory against West Michigan in front of 6,733 fans Monday at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Mich.

The TinCaps put the game away by scoring four runs in the ninth inning. B.J. Guinn hit a two-run double. Cory Spangenberg added a two-run single.

Sampson gave up one run in six innings for the victory.

The TinCaps qualified for the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

Fort Wayne will play Bowling Green in a best-of-three first-round series. Game 1 is Wednesday at Parkview Field.
