Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd and quarterback Tommy Rees have a knack for hooking up with each other in games.

In Saturday's loss to South Florida, Floyd caught 10 of his career-high 12 passes in the second half when Rees replaced starter Dayne Crist.

Last season, in the four games Rees started, Floyd had 29 receptions for 297 yards and four touchdowns.

"I think he knows what I'm capable of doing, and I guess the coverage that they give us, he sees what's open and he throws it," Floyd said during a news conference Wednesday. "There is nothing too big about that. What they give us is what we take."

Defenses may dictate some of what Rees sends Floyd's way, but the sophomore did tell reporters Tuesday that Floyd is a prime target.

"On the field he is such a good player," Rees said. "Our offense is trying to get the ball into our playmakers' hands, and he is one of the best playmakers we have. Looking for him and having him out there is definitely a plus for a quarterback.

"Maybe I throw to him sometimes when I shouldn't. That's something I have to learn to get better at, but as long as he is out there, we are a better team when the ball is in his hands."
