Council candidate comments in advance of Obama speech

It seems everyone across all levels of politics is trying to get some political gain out of President Obama’s jobs speech scheduled for Thursday evening.

Republican Fort Wayne City Council candidate Russ Jehl released a statement Thursday afternoon titled, “More Than a Speech, How We Can Really Attract and Retain Local Jobs.”

The statement discussed how a well-run city that lives within its means is “paramount to creating an environment for growth.”

He listed several problems he’s seen with how government has dealt with local businesses and pledged to work to make the city more open to development.

While the release did not specifically criticize Obama, it did note that he planned to use “more than rhetoric” for attracting businesses.

Jehl is running against Councilwoman Karen Goldner, D-2nd, this fall.
