Well, that didn't exactly put you in mind of "Braveheart".
First, Purdue coach Danny Hope, down two with less than four minutes to play and faced with a 4th-and-1, voluntarily punts the ball away rather than doing the stand-up thing, which is line up and get the damn first down.
Then Rice coach David Bailiff, handed the game on a silver platter, doesn't even attempt to make a first down -- which gives Purdue kicker Carson Wiggs a chance to win it with a chip-shot field goal at the end.
Fortunately for Bailiff, Justin Allen got a hand on the kick and deflected it wide, preserving Rice's first win over a Big Ten school in 21 years. And one Bailiff frankly didn't deserve.
Gutless.
