Lansing takes Game 1

Egan Smith pitched five shutout innings as Lansing beat Fort Wayne 4-1 in Game 1 of the Eastern Division championship series.

Matt Nuzzo had two singles, scored one run and knocked in one run as the Lugnuts grabbed a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Lansing scored once in the third inning and added two more runs in the fourth off of Fort Wayne starter Keyvius Sampson. The right-handed pitcher gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits in six innings.

Rymer Liriano had three hits for Fort Wayne. B.J. Guinn scored the TinCaps only run on an error in the seventh inning.

Game 2 is 7:05 p.m. Monday at Lansing. Game 3, if necessary, is Tuesday in Lansing.
